A very good water filter.
We kept getting water that seemed to have particles in it. We have city water and thought that it was no biggie. But - I decided to install this household filter system. The first time after installation we noticed that the showers did not have the chlorine, cool. Also after about 2 1/2 months it turned almost black and water pressure had reduced. . no biggie I replaced the filter. It was doing its job. Now for a surprise. About 2 weeks later it was really black and water pressure had went down. I thought that I had bought a bum filter. Replaced it and all was well. A couple of days later I found out the city had worked on the main water line. . . dirty water ran amuck. . our whole house and hot water heater would have suffered, except we had that filter. . . . yeaaaaa.
Was easy to install. Plumbing knowledge needed. Yes it does its job. Just a slight drop in water pressure, no biggie. It is a neat clean system, filters are easy to replace.

Good but installation instructions could be better
After installing the water filter our domestic water piping over-pressurized and a relief valve opened when our hot water heater fired up. We have an expansion tank, but it is located immediately after the cold water supply line enters the house. Unaware the water filter performs like a check valve completely inhibiting any back flow, I installed it downstream from the expansion tank. As such the expansion tank can not perform it's function. The installation instructions fail to mention this. The entire piping arrangement had to be redone installing the expansion tank downstream from the water filter.

Cost me $210 in plumber bills
This unit has a check valve in it , which causes a water pressure back up issue.
If your water supply is a open loop system ( meaning that you don?t have a expansion tank) , you cannot use a check valve unit.
The check valve will not allow the water to go back into the main line when the water expands in the water heater , which causes excess pressure in your water heater and main water line and will blow out the water heater pressure relief valve.
This is not good to bring the water line in the home to this pressure . So I give this filter unit a poor rating for not stating in the manual or box the it has a check valve in it.
This cost me $210 to have a plumber to come out and tell me this.

Only one problem
This product is a good product. Exccept for the o-ring. I always have trouble with when i replace the filter. In always becomes larger. It is hard to find another one because of its size. So i have to order in advance to replace my filter and it is a bit pricey from GE. Other then that I really like this Product and have recommended it to several other people. they to have purchased this product
