Cleans our worst dishes and bakeware perfectly!
After hand washing in our small kitchen my wife was willing to trade one cabinet for this dishwasher. No regrets! This unit is an incredible time saver for us, and keeps our sink and counter tidy (no more dish drying rack)!! It holds one family of 5's dinner dishes plus usually all the pans and bowls we cook/serve the meal with. We've had a meal for eight fit on several occasions with creative cramming. Even when layering extra items in - it still cleaned everything perfectly. I installed this on the end of a breakfast bar and was concerned about noise, since our den sofa is only 6 ft away. I lined the inside of the installation spot with drop ceiling tile before installation, and it's really pretty quiet. You can hear it, but we don't have to crank up the TV any louder when it's running. As one reviewer mentioned - it beeps after cycle completion, pretty loudly. I'm OK with that, but would appreciate a "quiet mode" option on a unit in this price range (that's the 4/5 on features & value - I'm a tough grader!). We're on well water, by the way, with no issues.

This product has great features
The slim size of my built-in dishwasher is perfect for my apartment kitchen. I love the digital selection options and display, and its quiet performance!

If you like Beeping Noises, this is for you
This dishwasher beeps at every chance. If you open the door and press power to turn it on, a loud beep is heard.
As you press the cycle select button, it beeps loudly with every press. It does not automatically select the last used cycle, nor propose a cycle at all.
If you open the door mid cycle to add some dishes, it beeps loudly every 15 seconds.
The icing on the cake is when the cycle completes, its produces a loud slow beep every 2 minutes. For 6 minutes!
When you open the door to silence the beeps by turning off the power, it beeps one more time.
I for one like to let the dishes be when the cycle completes, ignore it until morning. Let them remain in the hot dishwasher to dry further, and cool on their own, before putting them away. I find myself annoyed to have to open the door to silence the beeps, and all the hot air escapes.
If you want to sleep during the cycle, forget about it, it beeps louder than my alarm clock.
Lights flashing through the entire cycle, seems unnecessary as well.
I am flat out stunned there is no way to silence the beeps. Yes, I have called support who confirmed the same, and said all I could do, was review it here.

Only one flaw
Purchased on 5/01/2011, I have no problem with the Dishwasher it has been working great. My problem is with the silverware basket, it only lasted about 11 months. The basket has 8 compartments for silverware and I am down to 3 because the other 5 have no bottom in them. The heating element is causing the bottom of the basket to be come brittle over the 11 month period and when silverware is placed in the basket the bottom is breaking out.
The basket is not relatively expensive only $18.00 plus shipping, but most of the old dishwasher I have thrown out over the years the basket was the best thing left. Its a sham that G.E. skimped on the gauge plastic on the basket. G.E. needs to redesign the basket and beef the bottom up on this model.

This dishwasher is a wonderful addition to my new kitchen.
My wife loves this dishwasher. She loves the small size and the controls, which are located in the door and are concealed when the door is closed.

Exceeds our expectations
We needed a compact dishwasher that could fit in the space previously taken by a single cabinet. I tend to rely on Consumer Reports ratings, but they don't have ratings for compact dishwashers. Other GE Profile models were highly rated, though, so we checked out this one.
The inside is stainless steel. The outside is white, which goes well with our kitchen. Controls are on the inside, which we like--it makes the dishwasher unobtrusive in the midst of white-painted cabinets.
Does it make sense to have a dishwasher for just two people.Yes! Dishwashers use less water to clean the same amount of dishes. The dishes get cleaner. Dirty dishes are out of sight. And we have a lot of parties. We've found ways to get a LOT of dishes in this compact device, which is quieter than dishwashers I remember from childhood.
It took us a few months to discover the ideal detergent: Cascade Complete Pacs. Until we made that discovery, we were seeing a film on dishes. Since then, everything is great.

Little Washer With Big Value and Power
I love this little beauty! I have a medium size galley kitchen in NYC and just renovated it after 25 years. I decided to down size from a 24 inch DW to give me extra base cabinet storage space. I was terrified to commit to a new, smaller DW. But I did and am so happy with this little dirt buster. It looks beautiful inside and out. It has much more space than I thought it would and great features like the double shelf capability on the top right side rack. All the review research I did before buying made me nervous-no one seemed to love their 18 inchers and cited issues with all. I disagree. This is a great machine and cleans as well as my big one did. The only minor criticism I have is that the shortest cycle-called air dry--is still 50 minutes long. But c'est la vie. This is also a very quiet machine and I would take it over the more $$ Euro models as my contractor and friends who have or know those brands report a lot of repair issues.
Don't be afraid to downsize to this machine. Now I have all pull our drawers in my kitch base cabinets and lots of room. A 6 inch reduction in DW space means a lot in a small kitchen. Thank you GE!
