OK as microwaves go these days
I once had a microwave that was still working after 30 years (a brand no longer made) except it had gotten a bit slow. I gave it five years ago. For all I know, it is still working. From what I am reading in the reviews of various brands, nowadays you are lucky to get 5 years out of a mixcrowave.
Since my GE Spacemaker is 5 years old and still running, I guess that makes it at least average for reliability. When it was 3 years old, the magnetron died. The magnetron was under warranty, but it was $216 for labor.
A month ago the key pad started randomly not working.
I found that if I unplugged the machine for awhile, that would temporarily cure it. Right now it is working, but I am afraid the end is in sight.
I like the way the microwave cooks --the most important thing. It cooks very evenly, and the sensor cooking for vegetables, etc., is quite satisfactory.
It is attractive in its styling, easy to keep clean. The vent fan works great. The light is good, although changing the light bulb requires tools and physical agility.

The microwave looks great and seems high-tech with the flipout vent cover and touchpad, but in reality the components are pretty cheap. The black plastic around the edges of the face and handle cracked after a couple years of use, and the handle actually broke off at the top and had to be glued back together. I decided to write a review after the touchpad stopped responding to touch, which makes the unit completely useless. I expected more from an expensive GE Profile microwave.

Electronics are poor
After 4 ears the electronic board for the touch screen died.

Two problems in the first year
Thankfully, this product was still under warranty. I've had two problems: A cracked door after just a few months, and now it doesn't work (i.e. doesn't heat anything but makes a very loud noise trying). It hasn't been a year, and I do not appreciate having to take off two days of work to fix the microwave.

Short Life Span
A year after I bought this unit new, the element that microwaves the food went out making the microwave useless, yes the part was under warranty but still cost me over $150 to have it fixed. For being part of their better series of appliances it doesn't show in the performance.

Overall good value for money but buy extended warrantee
This product performs well but has needed two repairs in the 2 years we have had it. The extended warrantee saved us from very costly expenditures. Otherwise a fine product.
