Ratings and Q&A

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Quick It replaced an old GE range. Had to rewire for 50 amp service, but it was worth it. The cooktop heats big pots of water faster than anything else we have had. It also has 9 temperature selections and an indicator to tell you the unit is hot even when you finish cooking. The only thing it can't do is control for a specific temperature of the cooked stuff. You have to learn which setting to use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this cooktop This is an amazing cooktop. The fact the glass doesn't get hot is great for kids.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than Gas I redid my kitchen two months ago and the designer talked me into this induction cooktop. Love how it heats up instantly and has 10 different temperature controls. Once you take the pan off the burner, it's not really hot to touch, so safe for little ones. No, you don't necessarily need to change all of your cookware. About half of mine still worked, and the ones I replaced needed replacing anyway. Easy to find inexpensive replacements. Also easy to clean since surface is completely flat. Don't recommend having a shelf above or too near, since anything falling could break any glass surface.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointed We purchased a 36 inch Profile induction 3.5 years ago. About a month ago the center burner started working only half, then another burner gives only partial cooking ability and then the two left burners brought up an error message and will not work. After two visits the company we bought it from decided that they would offer a buy out instead of fixing and told us that if we decide to fix it, it probably will break again and we should take the buyout, which only amounts to less than half of a new purchase price. So yes, we are very disappointed, but want to add we absolutely loved the cook top, but wish it would of lasted. Now what to do?

Rated 4 out of 5 by from GE should read W. Edwards Deming's stuff After moving to a new home in Florida, we decided to completely remodel the kitchen. Walls were removed, ceilings raised, old cork floors removed and replaced with porcelain tile, and all new appliances. My wife’s dream kitchen. After significant research and the help of a knowledgeable salesman at a highly-regarded area store, we decided to go with a GE refrigerator, combined microwave/convection oven wall unit, and an induction cooktop. All were installed at the end of the project by licensed electricians and plumbers. The first time we used the 36” cooktop (model PHP9036DJBB), one of the heating elements would mysteriously turn off as soon as a specific heating number was entered. Other heating surfaces worked perfectly for about five days, and then they too began to randomly turn themselves off. We turned the electrical breakers off and waited several minutes before re-powering, but the problems continued after restoring power. About 30-45 minutes later, they would all operate for a while. Subsequent to several more meals being ruined by not being able to use the cooktop, verifying that we were using the correct cookware (came as a promo from GE with the unit), and that we were using it correctly as first-time induction users, we contacted the seller who quickly arranged for a GE Service Technician to inspect the cooktop. The technician was very professional and extremely knowledgeable. He reported that there were three error codes; two in the User Interface and one in an Induction Unit. A new cooktop was ordered and arrived well-packaged approximately a week later via FedEx. The same friendly technician came and replaced the original unit (now about a month old) with an entirely new cooktop. Upon running a diagnostic test, he reported that it too was not working, and in fact only one element (the largest) was functioning. The others would turn on and then immediately turn off. A third unit was ordered and arrived about a week later, and the next day the nice technician again installed a completely new cooktop. I guess the third time was the charm as we now have a fully functioning 36” cooktop that not only looks great in our new kitchen, but makes cooking fun. Simmering is altogether different from our previous electric ranges and cooking is much faster. Cleaning is easy and safety is much improved – no more burned hands! The only problem is you need to be aware that even though the surface is very hard, it is not scratch proof. Dragging a rough surface over it can create ugly scratches. We’ve taken the step to use dry/clean parchment paper between the surface and any pan we may need to “chef shake.” Thus far the surface still looks new. We also want to express our genuine appreciation for the GE Service Technician (Teddy) who was patient and apologetic for the two earlier units not working. He’s a testament to fast, professional service. GE obviously stands behind their products – something other brands could learn from. Also, if you’re new to induction cooking, know that there may be some noise associated with magnetic field induction – often from the cookware vibrating and not the cooktop itself. I’ve also read some complaints about lengthy cooking (e.g., “all-day simmering”). This may be a safety feature, but so far, it’s not happened to us during a variety of meal preparations. My rating of less than “excellent” is only because having to endure two lemons was frustrating. Will we trust GE again? Yes, but my advice about this induction cooktop is to spend a little more and purchase a service agreement. The quality control appears sketchy and you may need to go through a few units until you get one that properly works.
