Ratings and Q&A

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice downdraft cooktop Very nice cooktop I like the downdraft better than a overhead vent hood.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Less Than I Expected Our prior GE downdraft cooktop had solid burners that were surrounded by stainless steel. The controls were located at the front of the cooktop where they were easy to access, but also on an angle from the main cooktop surface. While I am still getting used to how to set the temperature controls on the new cooktop, I am not finding it easy to get the right temperature on a reasonably consistent basis. I had expected that the new radiant heating system and all the other technologies that are available to provide more consistency in maintaining a temperature. As I said, I am still getting used to the controls, but so far I am quite disappointed. The other major difference involves maintaining the cooktop. The old stainless cooktop seemed able to take a fair amount of normal everyday use and could be wiped down at the end of the day with a damp dishcloth or sponge. As described in the GE literature, the new cooktops are extremely susceptible to damage from abrasion. In particular, the GE literature suggests that wiping salt from the cooktop in the wrong way will lead to permanent scratches in the cooktop surface. Special cleaning products are needed to maintain the cooktop's surface in a clean condition. Also, aluminum and copper pots can leave a residue on the cooktop surface. In all, the new cooktop seems much more finicky and fragile.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Features and operation of my stove cooktop The service technician visited my home on April 14th at approx. 10:00 am, to troubleshoot the issue which causes the apparent slow heating of the burners. First, the technician did not disclose his finding such as what were the temperatures of the burners, even though he did take temperature readings. Were the burners provided with the proper voltage supply, i.e., 220volts or 120 volts? The technician did not perform any test to verify the burners' performances, i.e., how long the burner takes to heat up, say a 1/2 gal of water, the temperature of the water and what are the design requirements. My desire is to have the burner replaced due improper functioning and does not meet my satisfaction level. We were more engaged in determining what the medium setting is for the burners. That was not my concern as I had already known that the burners for medium were all different, which of course is a poor design.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great performing cook top and looks great. My only Really good looking unit and performs well. There is one real problem with this unit and that is you can not see the settings on the dials as the glass is black it is not back lit. Everyone I've shown the cook top to raves about how nice it looks but no one can read the dials. I need to keep the owner's manual beside the unit so that I can refer tp the illustrations to approximate where to set the dials. I never imagined this could happen or that it be sold as is. In my opinion this is a real problem.
