Top Load Washer - Fills and Drains at the Same Time

If your Top Load Washer is draining the water at the same time it is filling with water, please check the following problem solving tips to remedy the concern.

Washer Fills and Drains at the Same Time

  • Make sure that the house drain pipe is at least 30 inches high. If so, check to make sure the drain hose is not pushed too far down into the drain. No more than 5 to 7 inches of the drain hose should be down into the drain pipe. There must be an air gap around the drain hose. A snug fit can cause a siphoning action.
  • If the house drain is not at least 30" high, a drain hose clip (sometimes called an anti-siphon clip) is included in the installation package. It attaches onto the drain hose and then onto the back of the washer. This lifts the drain hose up to a proper height to prevent siphoning. For more information, please check out our Washer - Drain Height article.
