Top Load Washer - Fabric Softener Cup Cleaning

If the fabric softener cup is clogged (built up or dried fabric softener) try the following to clean the fabric softener cup. If residue is visible in the fabric dispenser cup, it can be cleared with a brush (like a toothbrush) and rinsed with hot water. Run the washer through a Quick Rinse cycle. Water should run through the cup the first 3 minutes of the cycle.

If water does not run through the cup make reset the washer doing the following:

  • Unplug the washer
  • Verify the washer is not in SLEEP mode by turning the dial and watch for the display re-illumination
  • Plug the washer back in
  • Run the washer through a Quick Rinse cycle

Tips to prevent clogging:

  • Always select Fabric Softener every time fabric softener is used. If not selected, water will not run through the cup
  • It is not recommended to use fabric softener on delayed wash cycles.
  • It is recommended to use approximately 1 oz. of fabric softener only and fill the cup to the Max Fill line with water to dilute the fabric softener
  • It is recommended to periodically clean the fabric softener cup.

If the fabric softener cup is not dispensing, we recommend service. For service, please schedule an appointment with GE Appliances Factory Service.
