Microwave Using a Trivet

A trivet is an item used primarily with meats to keep them out of their juices while cooking. This helps prevent overcooking of the area submerged in the liquid.

Trivets can be purchased or they can be made by adapting other commonly used dishes such as a flat-topped casserole lids, small shallow bowls, etc. Any item that is microwave-safe and can be placed under a food item to elevate it slightly can be used as a trivet.

Many manufacturers of microwave utensils make trivets. They often have a slotted or wavy surface.
