Dishwasher - Quiet Features

Dishwashers have a variety of features to help reduce operational noise. Depending on the insulation and features of the dishwasher, some models are louder or quieter than others.

In general, the insulated tub and door help reduce noise. Internal components are often designed to operate quieter. Most models also feature a blanket of insulation to reduce sound. Below are some specific features that act to deaden or reduce sound are (not all features are found on all models):

  • Bitumen: A combination of asphalt and rubber that is heat-bonded to the door and/or sides of the stainless steel tub/door. This heat-bonded application reduces noise vibration on the tub and is one of the best sound deadening materials used not only in dishwashers but, in cars, roofing, and flooring materials. Used with stainless tub or hybrid tub (stainless inner door, plastic tub) models.
  • Mastic: Mastic is a sound deadening material similar to asphalt that helps deaden motor and wash noise. Used with stainless tub or hybrid tub (stainless inner door, plastic tub) models.
  • Sealed toekick
  • Insulation blanket covering the top and sides
  • ActiveVent or Hidden Vent: Blocks sound. The system closes the air vent during the wash cycle to keep the noise inside the dishwasher and opens during drying to allow air circulation.
