Prepping Pathways and Measuring Your Space

As you're shopping for a new appliance, be sure to consider whether the appliance will fit into your space.  You may determine the appliance will fit the space you currently have; however, measuring height, depth and width are just the beginning. You should also consider these measurements: Door opening space, the hinge side door space, ventilation space, cleaning space, and even getting the appliance through doorways and hallways in the house.First, measure the actual location to ensure the appliance fits in the space available. You can find the appliance’s overall dimensions along with air clearance and cut-out dimensions in the product specifications, as well as the Installation Instructions

How to measure the space for the appliance:
  1. Measure the height (top to bottom), width (left to right) and depth (front to back) of the location space.
  2. Measure the space at the narrowest point (take note of molding and base boards).
  3. Measure the space needed for the appliance(s) door to open.
  4. Some appliances need additional space for hinges, door opening, or ventilation (air clearance).
  5. Always measure twice!

Second, make sure your appliance can fit through the house to its final location. Clear all obstructions from entry to the location where the appliance(s) will be located.

How to prepare the pathway
  1. Check for obstacles or space restrictions along the path to the appliance installation location by “walking the delivery path.”
  2. Sidewalks and driveway should be available and clear of snow, ice, and debris prior to delivery.
  3. Measure the following areas: installation space, gate, front door/door jam, hallways, kitchen island, stairway.
  4. Don’t forget to account for door knobs, latches, shelves and other wall-mounted items.
  5. Remove any door/hinges, hand rails, or any other obstructions that may prevent the appliance(s) from fitting into its place.
