Unitized Spacemaker Washer - Washer Will Not Start / Lid Not Locked
If the washer on your GE Unitized Spacemaker Washer/Dryer Laundry Center will not start because the lid does not lock or if it will not spin or complete wash cycles, the washer lid switch may not be connecting properly.
The rubber lid bumpers help cushion the lid when it falls onto the base of the washer. The bumpers may be slightly out of place. This may cause the lid to not close properly and allow the lid to lock. This will prevent the appliance from running cycles that require the lid lock such as the spin mode since the lid must lock for the washer to spin.
For models that were manufactured from January through March of 2021, there are a couple of things you can check to try to remedy this situation. Models manufactured between January and March of 2021 will have a serial number beginning with the letters AS, DS or FS.
-
First, make sure the washer top cover where the lid closes is level. Especially be sure to check the front, top area where the lid closes against the washer and make sure it is level and not bowed upward.
-
Second, check the rubber bumpers and bumper tabs on the washer lid. There is a bumper tab and rubber bumper on the front, left and right side of the washer lid. Inspect the bumper tabs and make sure they are level and are not bent. Then, press the bumper firmly to make sure it is properly seated in the bumper tab.
Once you have done this, close the lid and see if it is closing properly. Then, set the washer to run a cycle and see if it works. If the problem persists, we suggest scheduling service with Bodewell.
