Opal Ice Maker - Installation of the Side Tank (Dispenser Model)

Some GE Profile Opal Ice Maker Dispenser models, such as model P4INDOS6RBB, come with a side water tank accessory that can be installed on the left or right side of the ice maker. The Side Tank has magnets to attach it to the ice maker.

To install the Side Tank properly, follow these directions. More detailed instructions can be found in your Owner's Manual. Download a copy of your Owner's Manual.

Side Tank Location:

  • The Side Tank is installed flush to the front of the ice maker so that it does not block the air flow vents on the Opal.

  • The ice maker and Side Tank accessory should be installed on a level surface, and the tank should be at the same height as the ice maker.

  • Only fill the Side Tank with water, and make sure the water is safe for drinking.

Before You Install:

  1. First, hand wash the Opal Side Tank with mild dish soap and warm water.

  2. Remove the Side Tank cap and rubber valve, and wash them with soap and water.

  3. The base can be washed by disconnecting the hose and adding a small amount of soapy water to it.

  4. Be sure to rinse all components thoroughly before using the Opal. Do not wash these components in the dishwasher.

Connecting the Side Tank:

  1. Unplug the Opal Ice Maker Dispenser.

  2. Unhook the two drain tubes on the back of the ice maker. If this is not the initial installation, be sure to drain the water from the reservoir before proceeding.

  3. Facing the back of the Opal, connect the drain tube labeled Side Tank to the back of the Opal Side Tank's base.

  4. Install the remaining drain tube and hanger onto the back of the Opal for storage.

  5. Make sure the drain tube connecting to the Side Tank is resting flat on the countertop.

  6. Place the Opal Side Tank on the right or left-hand side of the Opal Ice Maker Dispenser. Placing it against the ice maker so that the Side Tank magnets attach to the ice maker.

    • Care should be taken to connect the correct tube to the Opal Side Tank. The tube should always be connected to the Side Tank whether it is installed on the left or right side of the Opal Ice Maker Dispenser. It is important to make sure the tube is lying flat, otherwise water may not flow from the side tank into the ice maker.

  7. Remove the Side Tank's reservoir from its base.

  8. Unscrew the Side Tank cap and fill the clear reservoir with water. Screw the cap back on. Ensure the cap is clean when installing.

  9. Carefully flip over the reservoir and place it in the base. Water will start flowing into the ice maker.

    • Bubbles are normal as water is flowing into the ice maker.

    • If water does not appear to flow into the ice maker, check the connections and adjust the Side Tank tube to allow water to flow.

  10. Fill the Opal Ice Maker Dispenser's lower water reservoir, if desired. Water will flow from the Side Tank but will have a slow start as it needs time to fill up the water reservoir before the ice maker can begin.

  11. Plug in the Opal Ice Maker Dispenser and begin making ice.
