Opal Ice Maker Dispenser - Installation and Getting Started
When you first unpack your Opal, making sure you install it correctly and finding the proper location will help keep your ice maker working well for you.
Installation Considerations
The unit must be installed indoors. Do not install your ice maker outside.
Ensure a minimum of three inches (3") clearance around the side and back walls of the ice maker for proper air circulation.
The unit is designed to be stored under standard-height kitchen cabinets. If planning to install the Opal on a kitchen countertop, we suggest measuring the distance from the countertop to the bottom of the overhead cabinet to determine fit.
It can be installed in a cabinet as long as adequate clearance (3" at the rear and the sides) is allowed for airflow around the sides and back of the unit. If the Opal is installed in an enclosed cabinet, the rate of ice making will be reduced due to higher temperatures within the cabinet.
The Opal must be installed upright on a flat, level surface that is able to support the total weight when full of water.
Do not place the product near heat sources such as ovens or cooktops.
Do not place the product in direct sunlight.
Due to potential safety hazards under certain conditions, we strongly advise against the use of an extension cord. However, if you must use an extension cord, it is absolutely necessary that it is a UL-listed, 3-wire ground type appliance extension cord having a grounding-type plug, and that the electrical rating of the cord be 15A (minimum) and 120 Volts.
Preparing for First Use
Carefully remove any packing material. Do not use sharp tools that can damage the box contents.
Ensure all components are present; these include the drip tray, screen filter intake, water filter and side tank accessory (specific models only). If any item is missing, contact 1-866-907-6718 or visit Opal Ice Maker Support.
Place the ice maker upright on a flat, level surface and plug it in.
Install the drip tray by sliding it in line with the front edge of the Opal. The magnets will activate for proper alignment.
Fill the reservoir with fresh, filtered, potable water up to the "Max Fill" line. Water hardness must be less than 12 grains per gallon. Do not fill the reservoir with any liquid except water. Using any liquid except potable water is misuse and will void the warranty.
Plug the ice maker into a grounded outlet.
Touch the Power button to start the ice maker. The indicator on the left-hand side will light up 'Making Ice' to confirm that the ice maker has begun to make ice.
Your Opal will begin to produce ice in 15 minutes. It will continue to make ice until the bin is full or it runs out of water. To continue making ice, dispense ice from the ice bin or add more water.
After a few hours of ice making, you may find a residue build up in the lower reservoir of your ice maker from the manufacturing process. Promptly drain the ice maker and manually clean off the residue with a wet cloth. Then run the ice maker through a cleaning cycle to dispose of any extra residue.
How to Dispense Ice
Place your cup under the dispenser.
Press the Opal Dispense button. This button will illuminate and ice will dispense as long as the button is pressed.
Release the Opal Dispense button and remove your cup when you have reached the desired amount of ice. The dispenser will automatically stop after 60 seconds of dispensing.
It is normal to have a few ice cubes naturally fall a few moments after dispensing.
Connect Your Ice Maker
When you install your ice maker, we recommend connecting the Opal to your WiFi using the SmartHQ™ app. Use the SmartHQ app for remote control or access voice control capabilities through Alexa and Google. Find out more about our Smart Appliances.
