How do I clean the griddle on my range or cooktop?
Cleaning the Griddle on a Range or Cooktop
Whether you have a cast iron griddle or a non-stick griddle, we can help you keep it clean. Keeping the griddle clean prevents foods from sticking and keeps the griddle looking good. Our professional experts know how to keep a griddle clean and ready for use, morning, afternoon, or night.
Non-Stick Griddle
Here are our directions for cleaning an aluminum non-stick coated griddle:
- When using the aluminum non-stick coated griddle for the first time, wash it with mild dish detergent and water, then dry it thoroughly.
- When you are done cooking on the griddle, always allow it to cool and pour off any excess grease before cleaning. We suggest wiping it off using a paper towel as well.
- Wash the griddle in warm soapy water. Allow it to soak a few minutes to soften stubborn soils and dissolve grease or oil. If needed, a non-abrasive plastic scouring pad can be used to remove cooked on food soils.
- We do not recommend cleaning the griddle in a dishwasher. Only clean it by hand washing.
Cast Iron Griddle
Here are our directions for cleaning a cast iron griddle:
- When using the cast iron griddle for the first time, wash it off using hot water only. Don't use soap, simply rinse with hot water and dry it thoroughly.
- Next, season the griddle by coating it with a light, thin coating of vegetable oil.
- When you are done cooking on the griddle, always allow it to cool and pour off any excess grease before cleaning. We suggest wiping it off using a paper towel as well.
- Wash the griddle in hot water only using a sponge or stiff brush to clean it. Do not use scrubbing pads or steel wool on the cast iron griddle. Always towel dry the griddle after washing.
- Nest, apply a light, thin coating of vegetable oil to the griddle. It is permissible to use a light coat of cooking spray in lieu of vegetable oil.
- Do not clean the cast iron griddle in the dishwasher. Only clean it by hand washing.
Cast Iron Rust
Pooled water on your cast iron griddle or letting the griddle air dry can cause it to rust. This is why it is very important to towel dry and maintain proper seasoning after each use. If your griddle does get rust on the surface, our technical experts do the following to remedy the concern:
- Gently remove the rust using steel wool.
- Clean the surface of the griddle using a sponge and hot water. Remove any rust residue and remove as much of the existing seasoning as possible.
- Heat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Coat the griddle with a thin layer of vegetable oil and place it in the oven for one hour.
- Remove the griddle from the oven and allow it to cool.
- Should any of the surface area appear to not be coated / re-seasoned, you can repeat this process again.
