GE Profile™ UltraFast Combo Washer/Dryer - Odors
Though not common, should you notice an unpleasant odor inside your GE Profile™ UltraFast Combo Washer/Dryer, there are a number of possible causes and easy solutions for you to try.
New Machine Odor
We recommend running a
Self Clean cycle if you notice an odor in your new Combo. This should help resolve any new machine smells that may exist as a residual odor from the manufacturing process.
Combo Unused for a Long Time or Detergent Issues
- Regularly use the Dry cycle option.
- In cases of strong odors, you may need to run the Self Clean cycle more than once.
- Use only the amount of detergent recommended or adjust the SmartDispense to LESS.
- Use only HE (high-efficiency) detergent.
- "Home-made" detergents have been known to cause odors to develop inside your Combo.
- Always remove wet items from the Combo promptly after it stops running.
- If you choose not to use the Dry cycle option, leave the door slightly open for the Combo to air dry. Close supervision is necessary if your Combo is used in an area near children. Children should not be allowed to play on or in your Combo.
Residual Lint in the Drain Pump
If residual lint accumulates in the drain pump, it is possible that an odor can develop. To prevent odors, it is important to clean out the pump filter. Instructions for how to clean your pump filter can be found in the Care and Cleaning section of your Combo's
Owner's Manual or by visiting our GE Appliances website at
GE Profile™ UltraFast Combo Washer/Dryer - Cleaning the Pump Filter.
Drain Hose Location Within the Drain Pipe
If you notice an odor coming from your Combo, make sure your drain hose is installed properly. According to the
Installation Instructions, it is important to make sure the drain hose is not installed too far down the drain pipe (standpipe) to prevent the possibility of a siphoning action. No more than 7 inches of this hose should be in the drain pipe. There must also be an air gap around the drain hose so that siphoning does not occur. If siphoning does occur, it is very possible that an odor will develop over time.
