GE Profile™ Laundry - Steam Closet Troubleshooting
GE Profile™ Steam Closet with Fabric features to make laundry less of a chore, like additional pressing, refreshing and sanitizing using steam. If you find the Steam Closet isn't working as expected, you may find the below troubleshooting helpful.
Steam From The Door
- Steam or Hot Air When Door is Opened: It is normal for steam or hot air to escape if the door is opened during operation.
- Steam or Hot Air When Door is Closed: If you see steam coming out from around the closed door, it usually means something is keeping the door slightly open. Make sure all of your items in the Steam Closet are completely inside the cabinet and nothing is blocking the door from closing completely.
Noises
- Vibrating Noise When Starting: The moving hanger is balancing the load before operation. This noise is normal and briefly occurs at the beginning of the cycle. If the noise increases or continues for a long time, contact us for service.
- Sound of Motor Whirring: This is a normal sound and is the compressor is running during drying.
- Sound of Water Running, Boiling, or Hissing: As steam is being generated and sprayed onto clothes, you will hear this noise. It is normal.;
- Thumping or Popping Sound: Hearing a sound and/or seeing the appliance is moving from left to right while operating is not normal. It can happen if the floor under the Steam Closet is not level or is not sturdy enough to support the weight of the appliance without flexing. Install the appliance where the floor is level and sturdy and compensate forany slight unevenness in the floor with the leveling legs. For helping with leveling, see the "Leveling the Fabric Care Closet" section in your Owner's Manual
Not Drying Properly or Not Drying at All
- Drying Time is Longer than Estimated: On all dry cycles except the Timed Dry cycle, the Steam Closet uses a sensor to stop automatically when your clothes are dry. If your clothes were extremely wet or bulky, drying times may be longer than the estimated time. Using the washer spin cycle or ensuring the clothes are damp dry before loading them into the cabinet will speed up the drying time.
- Clothes are Wet at End of the Cycle:
- Filter is Clogged - Clean the lint filter. Instructions can be found in the Owner's Manual or by visiting GE Profile™ Laundry - How to Clean Your Steam Closet
- Grill is Upside Down - Insert the grill with the holes on the right side.
- Door Gasket is Damaged - If the rubber door gasket is damaged, it leaves a gap in the door seal, affecting the performance of the appliance. Call for service.
- Clothes or Bulky Items Caught in the Door - Make sure all your items are completely in the cabinet and blocking the door from closing completely. Runthe cycle again after moving repositioning your items.
Not Starting or Not Operating
- Control Panel Turned Off: The control panel will power off due to inactivity. This is normal. Press the Power pad to turn the appliance on again.
- Cord is Unplugged or Circuit Breaker is Tripped: Make sure the cord is plugged securely into a working 120V outlet.
- Control Panel Won't Respond: The control panel may have dust or dirt on it, which can interfere with the operation of the glass touch pads. Try cleaning the control panel with a damp, clean cloth.
- Cycle Not Starting:
- Start/Pause icon may not have been touched after the cycle was set. Press Start to begin the cycle.
- Control Panel is Locked - There is a control lock feature to prevent accidental start-up of the Steam Closet. Deactivate the Control Lock function by pressing the "Special Care / *Control Lock" icon for three seconds to deactivate or activate the Control Lock function.
- Steam Period - The cycle is producing steam. There may be a period of inactivity while steam is produced.
- Functions Not Working Properly: Detergent or fabric softener may have been put in the water supply tank. Do not use anything but clean water in the water supply tank.
Odors Not Removed After the Cycle
- Clothing Contains Strong Odors Before Cycle: Clothes and bulky items that were stored for a long period of time or are stained with a strong-smelling substance can be particularly difficult to remove. Washing clothes with oily stains or strong odors is recommended before putting them in the Steam Closet.
- Water in Tank: If the Steam Closet has not been used for a long time, the water tanks and filters may not be clean. Check for dirt or foreign objects in the water supply and water drain tanks and then clean the tanks and filters.
Not Removing Wrinkles or Creases Disappearing
- Not Removing Wrinkles at the End of the Cycle:
- Clothing Heavily Wrinkled - Clothes stored for a long period of time can get heavily set-in wrinkles. Wrinkles and creases may be very difficult to reduce if set for a long time, especially in cotton and linen fabrics. Ironing clothes that have been stored for a long period of time before putting them in the Steam Closet can help to reduce wrinkles more effectively.
- Wrinkles at the Back of the Neck - If there is wrinkling or creasing at the back of the collar or neck of the clothing items after the cycle, the item is too large for the hanger or the fabric is too delicate. Use the right size hanger for the item so the fabric won't bunch up and cause wrinkles. Some fabrics are delicate and will bunch around the hanger no matter what you do. Use the shelf for lingerie and other delicate items.
- Creases are Gone from Pants After Cycle: Pants were hung on the moving hanger, not in the pants press. Hang pants in the pants press to maintain creases at the edge of your pant legs.
