GE Profile™ is changing what a refrigerator can do. It’s no longer just for keeping food cold—it’s designed to help make everyday life easier. Think of it as a smart helper in your kitchen that can answer common questions like:

  • What do I need from the grocery store?
  • What do I already have at home?
  • What should I make for dinner?

With the new Kitchen Assistant™ technology, your fridge can help you plan meals, keep track of groceries, and reduce food waste—all in a simple, easy-to-use way.  This technology includes:

  • Scan-to-List Bar Code Scanner
  • FridgeFocus™
  • Recipe App Integration

Scan-to-List Bar Code Scanner

The Scan-to-List Bar Code Scanner is built into the right side of your refrigerator’s dispenser and is a key part of the Kitchen Assistant feature. It’s designed to make grocery shopping easier.

To use it, simply scan the UPC barcode on an empty item before you throw it away. The item is automatically added to your shared digital shopping list in the SmartHQ app—so you don’t have to remember it later. It even captures the exact brand, size, and flavor. You can share this list with your family, making it easier for everyone to stay on the same page.

The scanner recognizes over 4 million items, including pantry goods, refrigerated and frozen foods, drinks, pet supplies, toiletries, baby items, home goods, school supplies, and cleaning products.

 

How to use the scanner:

  • Hold the item halfway up the dispenser.
  • Line up the barcode with the green target light to scan.

 

Helpful tips:

  • The scanner and green light turn on when you’re standing in front of the dispenser or after you touch the screen.
  • You can turn off the green target light in Settings, and the scanner will still work.
  • The scanner will not work if the refrigerator doors are open.
  • Once the item appears on the screen, you can adjust the quantity using the touchscreen.
  • If an item doesn’t have a barcode (like fresh produce), you can add it to your list by typing or using voice in the SmartHQ app.
  • You can sync your SmartHQ shopping list with Instacart for grocery delivery.
  • Each scan of the same product increases the quantity for situations when you want more of one item.

 

If you’re having trouble scanning:

  • Turn on Low Light Assist in Settings to improve visibility.
  • Make sure the green target light is on and properly aligned with the barcode.
  • Confirm that you are logged into SmartHQ on your refrigerator and that it’s connected to a strong Wi-Fi network.

 

FridgeFocus™

Your refrigerator’s FridgeFocus™ camera helps you keep track of what’s in your produce drawers—even when you’re not at home.

Each time you open the produce drawers, the camera takes a photo. You can view these images anytime in the SmartHQ™ app, making it easier to plan your grocery list and avoid buying items you already have. Since fresh foods spoil faster, this feature can also help reduce food waste.

The camera gives you a top-down view of your drawers, with images that you can scroll through to quickly check what’s inside.

 

Good to know:

  • The camera includes a built-in shutter and lens cover for privacy.
  • It only works when your refrigerator is connected to Wi-Fi and linked to your SmartHQ account.
  • The camera does not record video or stream live—it only takes snapshots.
  • The app stores images from the last five times the drawers were opened.
  • Because the camera is located at the top of the refrigerator and only captures images of the drawers when they are open, the fridge shelves do not need to be cleared.

 

When does the camera take a picture?A snapshot is taken only when all three of these conditions are met:

  • The refrigerator door is open
  • The produce drawers are open
  • Nothing is blocking the camera’s view

 

Additional tips:

  • The camera can be adjusted (tilted) for a better view.
  • You can turn off the FridgeFocus feature anytime in Settings on the dispenser display. Just go to “Appliance Settings.”

 

Recipe App Integration

Take the stress out of meal planning with a refrigerator that works like your personal recipe assistant.

You can discover new recipes, save your favorites, and quickly add ingredients to your shared digital shopping list—all from the SmartHQ™ app. This makes it easier to plan meals and make sure you have everything you need.

Recipes come from trusted partners like Taste of Home and King Arthur Baking, with new options added through software updates. You can also explore unique recipe ideas created by other users with the Flavorly Recipe Generator.

 

How to get started:

  • Open the SmartHQ app and swipe up to the “Recipes” section
  • Select a recipe to view ingredients and step-by-step instructions
  • Add any missing ingredients directly to your shopping list

It’s a simple way to find meal ideas and stay organized in the kitchen.
