Dishwasher - Hidden Vent, ActiveVent, or Concealed Vent Feature
Many GE Appliances Dishwashers have a concealed vent which is not visible on the door. We are often familiar with seeing a vent on the Dishwasher door. However, as the years have passed, more and more Dishwasher models feature a hidden vent that is not visible on the door. We are providing information about this feature below.
Understanding the Design and Function of the Concealed Vent on a Dishwasher
Concealed Vent with Fan Assist Dry
This feature may be called Hidden Vent or Concealed Vent. Found on all models without a visible vent on the front (primarily Top Control models), the vent is concealed inside the Dishwasher door. This provides a clean appearance, seals in sound during the wash cycle, and protects against venting damage to countertops such as Corian or granite.
Note: Do not use the Dishwasher if the vent cover is not in place on the inside of the door.
Air is pulled from the tub with an efficient 10 watt fan. The fan drives the moist air down a condensation tube, where any remaining drops of moisture are released within the door to a moisture proof trough in the lower inner door. By the time the moisture reaches this part of the door, the moisture has been reduced to a few drops. Moisture then drains back into the bottom of the tub and away from the dish load.
The high-efficiency fan will run quietly for 30 minutes to 4 hours, depending on the selected cycle, after the CLEAN light is illuminated to continue drying the dishes. This can be interrupted by opening the door and pressing any keypad.
ActiveVent
This feature is found on older GE Profile™ Series Dishwasher models.
ActiveVent II
GE Appliance's ActiveVent II, introduced in the Fall 2001, has a new and improved seal to help further reduce overall sound levels. It closes to seal in the sound during the wash cycle, then opens to help speed the drying cycle.
ActiveVent
GE Appliances's unique ActiveVent helps keep the GE Profile™ Series Dishwasher even quieter! It closes during all wash cycles to isolate wash water sounds inside the tub where it belongs. After the washing and rinsing is complete, the vent opens to allow silent convection drying.
Note: If "PF" continues to flash in the display window and it cannot be cleared, it is possible that the ActiveVent is stuck partially up or partially down. This will put the control in a "PF" mode. Usually, pushing the vent down with your finger and hitting the Clear/Reset pad will correct the problem.
