Range & Wall Oven - Oven Temperature Bake Test
This oven temperature bake test or "biscuit bake test" is an easy way to check the accuracy of the oven baking temperature. Performing this test can better help you decide if your range or wall oven is baking at the correct temperature. Range & Wall Oven - Optimal Baking Performance
Supplies Needed:
-
1 Shiny aluminum cookie sheet or aluminum foil wrapped dark pan. If you only have dark pans, cover the entire pan, top and bottom, with aluminum foil or reduce the recommended baking temperature by 25 degrees. The reason for covering a dark pan is because dark pans retain more heat and at the regular baking temperature some foods may burn or overcook.
-
1 Can of regular size refrigerated biscuits.
Baking Test Procedure:
-
Evenly distribute one can of refrigerated biscuits across a shiny aluminum cookie sheet.
-
Use a pan with low sides - maximum 1/2 inch side height.
-
Use a pan which allows a minimum of 1 to 1-1/2 inch clearance between the pan and the walls of the oven interior on all sides.
-
Foil must not be used on the floor of the oven or on the oven shelf/rack.
-
Set the oven temperature as recommended on the package.
-
Preheat the oven until a tone sounds or a preheat light goes off. If your model does not have a preheat indicator, preheat the oven for 10 minutes.
-
Quickly place the biscuits in the oven on the oven rack as per the recommendation located in your owner's manual in the "Baking Tips" section.
-
DO NOT open the oven door to check on the biscuits until the minimum cooking time listed on the package has been reached. After reaching the minimum time, check the biscuits for doneness. If they are not brown enough, leave them in the oven until the maximum cooking time has elapsed.
-
Remove the biscuits from the oven.
Checking Results:
-
If the biscuits are undercooked or overcooked, the oven may need to be calibrated. For more information about adjusting your oven temperature, visit: Range & Wall Oven - Oven Cooking Too Slow or Too Fast
-
If the biscuits are cooked properly within the minimum to maximum time range on the package, then the oven is calibrated properly.
