Washer Laundry Tub Measurements

All washers are measured and communicated using only the latest August 2010 DOE capacity standard. The IEC measurement standard will no longer be used in print, online, specs, etc. after 4/30/11 by manufacturers.

DOE (US Department of Energy) measurement refers to the usable space in the washer; all manufacturers use a standard measurement procedure.

The reported DOE capacity will be used by all manufacturers to report energy and water consumption to DOE as of May 1, 2011, and will be used in AHAM's new energy verification program for clothes washers. The DOE procedure provides an accurate, uniform and repeatable measurement of drum volume for the purpose of calculating energy and water consumption for all clothes washer types.
