Range - Oven Door Will Not Latch

The oven door should only be latched or locked for use with the self-clean function. You should never latch the oven door when using a cooking function.

Diagnosing an Oven Door That Will Not Latch

With most ranges, the oven door will not lock if the oven is warm from baking. Be sure to let the oven cool down before attempting to latch the door for the self-clean operation. Because of the heavy insulation around our self-cleaning ovens, it may take several hours for the oven to completely cool down.

After latching the door, the lock light may not glow until the cleaning process has been going for up to 30 minutes. This is because the lock mechanism does not engage until the oven has reached cleaning temperatures of approximately 600 degrees and higher. Electric electronic control models may not have a latch. These models will flash "door" in the display. Make sure the door can close freely.

On older models (1988 and earlier), be sure the window shield is in the "up" position and firmly in place. Also, push and hold in the latch release button while moving the latch.
