Upright & Chest Freezer - Installation and Location
To obtain maximum efficient operation, a freezer should be installed properly. To review the requirements for your specific model, please take a look at the Owner's Manual and Installation Instructions for your freezer.
Installation and Location for an Upright and Chest Freezer
Follow these guidelines for the best location for your freezer.
Place the freezer where the surrounding external temperatures will not exceed 110 degrees Fahrenheit or fall below 0 degrees Fahrenheit.
Position the freezer in a dry, well ventilated room. Do not install it in a closet.
Be sure to install the freezer on a floor strong enough to support it fully loaded.
Place it solidly on the floor. If the floor is uneven, use shims to level the freezer.
For current 12 cubic feet and larger chest freezers, allow for a 2" air clearance on each side and a 2" air clearance in the back of the freezer.
For current 11 cubic feet and smaller chest freezers, allow for a 2" air clearance on each side and a 2" air clearance in back of the freezer for 9 and 11 cubic feet models and allow for a 3" air clearance on each side and a 3" air clearance in back of the freezer for 5 and 7 cubic feet models..
For all current upright freezers, allow for a 3" air clearance on each side, a 2" air clearance in the back and a 3" air clearance at the top.
