Air Conditioner - Styrofoam in Room Air Conditioners
It is possible that you may notice what appears to be Styrofoam inside a Window Air Conditioner. This is a normal part of the appliance and is not packing material.
Understanding Seeing Styrofoam Inside a Window Air Conditioner
All Window Air Conditioners have white Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) air ducts. This foam material is similar to what is used in coolers and insulated cups. The EPS is part of the product and should not be removed. If this has been removed, a Service Technician will most likely be needed to replace this part. Studies show that EPS is typically mold resistant.
Note: It is normal for sunlight to be visible through the Styrofoam (EPS) in the Air Conditioner. The material is designed to have a very low density for thermal insulation. While the low density is good for thermal insulation, it does allow in a small amount of light.
Note: Built-In and PTAC (Zoneline) models do not use EPS in the air discharge areas like Window models do.
