Refrigerator - Hot Water Disabled Message

On refrigerators that feature a Hot Water Option on the display, there are two different Hot Water Disabled messages that may appear on the display when the hot water dispenser is not working properly. This does not apply to models with Hot Water and the Keurig® K-Cup Brewing System.

Low Flow

The screen will say "Water pressure is too low". Make sure water line is properly connected and the shut-off valve is fully open. Then, dispense 10 ounces of COLD water and try again.

Resolving the Low Flow Message

  1. Dispense cold water until the water is flowing at a good rate and all the air is out of the water line.
  2. Once water is flowing well, dispense at least 10 ounces of cold water.
  3. Wait 30 seconds.
  4. After 30 seconds, the hot water should no longer be disabled.

Other Messages

  • The screen will say "There is a problem with your hot water dispenser. Call 1-800-GE-CARES."
  • The screen will say "Hot water dispenser is not working properly. Call GE Appliances at 877-959-8688 for assistance."

This means the refrigerator has detected an issue with the hot water dispenser that might require service. If connected to WiFi, check the SmartHQ™ app to see if any updates are available. Install updates if available, then attempt to dispense hot water. The fault might also clear if the electronics are reset. Unplug the refrigerator or turn the breaker off for 1 minute, then restore power, then attempt to dispense hot water.
