Understanding the Child Safety Lock Feature on a Front Load Washer

  1. Load clothes.
  2. Load detergent and other laundry products that you may need.
  3. Press the Power button. The first time the washer is plugged in, you may see a 15 second delay with the display coming on. The computer is checking the system - this is normal.
  4. Select the cycle. For example: Whites, Normal, Speed Wash.
  5. Press Start.
  6. For 15 seconds, the washer's computer checks the system and then locks the door.
  7. The basket turns 1/4-turn clockwise, then counter-clockwise and unlocks the door. This is called the Child Safety procedure.
  8. The system pauses for ~15 seconds with the door unlocked to allow a child to get out. The system locks the door and does a dry spin to determine the weight of the clothes in the washer.
  9. If this is a Front Load model with a bulk dispenser, the first time it is used a 2 minute delay happens while the system charges the pumps for SmartDispenseā„¢.
  10. Water is then added and the washer does a spin to better determine the weight of the clothes.
  11. The system begins filling with water based on the weight of the clothes and starts the wash process. This is about 60 seconds after Start was pressed or 3 minutes for SmartDispense.
