Dishwasher Squealing or Rattling Pump Noise

If the dishwasher is new, it may not have any water in it. This can cause a "squeal" or "rattling" sound the first time it is used. The sound may also occur if the dishwasher is run after an extended period of time without any use.

 

Add one quart of water to the bottom of the tub and the noise should go away. The water lubricates the pump seals and keeps them quiet.
