Electric Range & Cooktop - Radiant Top Surface Burner Turns On and Off

It is normal operation for radiant elements to cycle on and off (glow red and then go dark) during operation. Radiant elements are featured on Electric Ranges and Cooktops with a ceramic glass, smooth cooktop surface.

Radiant Surface Burner Operation

  • When the radiant burner is turned on HIGH, the element will cycle on about 75% of the time and off 25% of the time.
  • On MEDIUM, the element will cycle about 50% on and 50% off.
  • On LOW setting, the element will cycle about 25% on and 75% off.
Note: On 6/9 or 6/9/12 inch burner, there is not an insulation barrier between the 6" and the 9" burner. When the 6" burner is used, this will cause a visual overflow of light into the 9" area.
