Gas Range & Wall Oven - Oven Will Not Come On

To minimize the possibility of electric shock, unplug the appliance from the power supply before attempting any maintenance or cleaning or turn the house circuit breaker to the off position.

If the oven on a gas range or wall oven is not coming on, the tips below may help to remedy the concern:

Make sure the oven controls are set correctly for either Bake or Broil:

  • If the oven has knobs for setting the oven temperature and oven function, make sure they are set properly.

  • If the control knobs were removed for cleaning, make sure they were put back in the proper location.

Check the power supply:

  • Check the house fuse or circuit breaker box to be sure the breakers are ON or that the fuses are good.

  • On ranges, check the power cord to make sure it is plugged fully into the wall outlet. The power cord might be unplugged or loose. On freestanding and slide-in ranges, you can access the plug by pulling out and removing the storage drawer. For safety, make sure the house circuit breakers or fuses are disconnected before checking the power cord.

Check the gas supply:

  • Make sure the gas to the range or wall oven is turned on by checking the gas shutoff valve. Refer to the Installation Instructions for the location of the valve.

  • Check the oven Glo-Bar Igniter. Turn the oven ON be setting it for Bake, open the oven door and look for a red glow in the bottom of the oven towards the back. If no red glow is observed, there may be a malfunction with the Glo-Bar, the oven controls or other electrical components.

Reset the electronic control:

  • Turn the circuit breaker to the OFF position. Wait one minute, then turn the breaker back to the ON position to reset electronic oven controls on models so equipped.

  • We suggest doing this even if the light or the clock on the range or wall oven is working.

Check the door latch on self-clean ranges with a mechanical door latch:

  • Make sure the self-clean door latch is all the way to the left in the "Unlocked" position.

Make sure the oven is not in Sabbath Mode (for models with this feature):
