SxS Refrigerator Water Dispenser Temperatures and Capacity

Side-by-Side refrigerators have a water reservoir in the fresh food section that holds approximately 14.9 to 33.5 ounces of water, depending on the model. Monogram models hold 32 ounces.

The water is stored and chilled in either a storage tank or coil tubing until it is needed. To see if the refrigerator has a tank or coil, pull out the vegetable bins and look on the back wall. Recovery time for the coiled tubing is significantly less than models with storage tanks, since there is less water to cool down in the coil than the larger reservoir.Since the reservoir is in the fresh food section, the water will not be ice-cold.The following are average temperatures of water from the dispenser, assuming that:

  • The doors have not been opened for 10 to 12 hours.
  • The glasses that are to be filled are eight ounce glasses.
  • The ambient room temperature is 78 degrees.
  • The average fresh food temperature is 38 degrees.
  • The average freezer temperature is 3 degrees.
  • The temperature of the incoming water is 78 degrees.

Profile Arctica models 2001 - Current: GE and Hotpoint models 2001 to summer of 2002:Reservoir tank holds 33 ounces.

Note: 2003 & newer Hotpoint models DO NOT have chilled water.

The first time the dispenser is used, the chilled water lever may need to be pressed for two to three minutes to fill the reservoir for the first time. It takes approximately seven seconds to fill an eight ounce glass with water.
