Top Freezer Refrigerator Water Dispenser Temperatures and Capacity

GE top-mount refrigerators with exterior dispensers (except CustomStyle models) DO NOT have water reservoir tanks, so the water is the same temperature as the cold water at the sink. The water from the dispenser is delivered through a water line connected directly to the household plumbing.

The following are average temperatures of water from the dispenser, assuming that:

  • The doors have not been opened for 10 to 12 hours.
  • The glasses that are to be filled are eight ounce glasses.
  • The ambient room temperature is 78 degrees.
  • The average fresh food temperature is 38 degrees.
  • The average freezer temperature is 3 degrees
  • The temperature of the incoming water is 78 degrees.

CustomStyle top-mount refrigerators with external dispensers prior to 2001 have a reservoir tank that holds 32 ounces.

  • Glass #1 Low to Mid 40s
  • Glasses #2-4 Mid to High 40s
  • Glasses #5-6 Low to Mid 50s

Allowing for a one minute stabilization period after six glasses of water have been drawn, the following temperatures can be expected for subsequent glasses of water.

  • Glass #7 Low to Mid 60s
  • Glass #8 Mid to High 50s
  • Glass #9 High 50s to Low 60s

Top-mount refrigerators with internal water dispensers Summer of 2002 to Current: Coil reservoir ;holds 14.9 ounces of chilled water.

  • Glasses #1 & 2: Low to Mid 40s
  • Glass #3: Low to Mid 60s
  • Glass #4: Mid to high 80s

The first time the dispenser is used, the chilled water lever may need to be pressed for two to three minutes to fill the reservoir for the first time. It takes approximately seven seconds to fill an eight ounce glass with water.
