Dishwasher - Detergent Cup Not Closing
There are 3 types of detergent (soap) cup designs that have been used on our dishwashers. The detergent cup design used in your dishwasher depends upon the age and model you own.
-
Round detergent cover with handle: Grip the detergent cup lid by the handle and turn clockwise until it clicks.
-
Square flip-up cover: Press down on the cover until it snaps into the closed position.
-
Sliding Cover: Slide the cover into the closed position until it snaps into place.
If the detergent cup will not close, you can try the following suggestions to remedy the concern:
-
Be sure the dishwasher is off before adding detergent; otherwise, the detergent cup will not close and latch properly. On electronic models, the control may blink or beep to remind you to start the dishwasher.
-
-
Electronic control dishwashers: Press the Start/Reset pad twice to reset the dishwasher. The dishwasher will run about 90 seconds while the unit pumps out; when finished, try closing the soap cup again.
-
Mechanical control dishwashers: The detergent cup will not close unless the timer has advanced to the off setting. Turn the timer knob a full revolution clockwise, ending at OFF.
-
-
If using a detergent pod or tablet, make sure it is not interfering with closing the cover.
-
Make sure no detergent, food soil, etcetera, is caught in the latch mechanism.
-
If the control does not blink or beep but the cup still does not operate, there is likely a problem with the mechanical part of the trip mechanism. A service call will be necessary.
