Side-by-Side Refrigerator - Ice on Freezer Floor

An ice build-up in the Freezer section floor of a Side-by-Side Refrigerator is not considered normal. On some models, you may be able to resolve this concern without the need for repair service.

Resolving a Concern With Ice on the Freezer Floor In a Side-by-Side Refrigerator

If ice is on the Freezer floor, the drain tube may be clogged. This can be corrected by flushing the drain with a teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in 2 cups of hot water. On models where you can correct this yourself, instructions can be found in the Owner's Manual for the specific model you own.

  • For old TFX30/TPX Built-In Style models: The drain hole is located approximately 12" to 23" up from the floor of the Freezer behind a plastic panel held in place by a Phillips screw. Remove the screw and panel and the drain hole is visible. Flush with a teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in 2 cups of hot water forced down the drain hole with a meat/turkey baster.
  • To minimize the possibility of electric shock, unplug this appliance from the power supply before attempting any maintenance or cleaning.
