When looking at a gas or electric range or cooktop on our GE Appliances website, the type of control knob is typically listed in the Specs & Details tab for the model. Knobs are typically color matched to the appliance and are made of various types of material by design.

Understanding the Design of the Control Knobs on a Cooking Appliance

Stainless Steel knobs can be made of different materials.

• On most Café Series and some GE Profile™ Series cooking products with knobs that have a Stainless Steel appearance, they may be die cast metal. Check the product specifications to confirm.
• On all other Stainless and Slate models, they are electro-plated plastic but they are weighted so they have the feel of metal knobs without the heat issues.

Color-matched plastic knobs are made of a temperature resistant electroplated plastic coating.
