Advantium Reasons for Sparking And Arcing

Arcing can occur during both Speedcooking and Microwave cooking. If you see arcing, press the Clear/Off pad and correct the problem.

Arcing is the microwave term for sparks in the oven, and is caused by:

  • Metal cookware used during either Speedcook or microwave cooking.
  • Metal, such as twist-ties, poultry pins, or gold-rimmed dishes, in the oven.
  • Recycled paper towels containing small metal pieces being used in the oven.
  • Metal or foil touching the side of the oven. Caution: use aluminum foil only as recommended in the Owner's Manual.
  • Foil not molded to food (upturned edges act like antennas). Caution: use aluminum foil only as recommended in the Owner's Manual.

It has been found that some vegetables (ex. green beansĀ or carrots) may cause an arcing effect or sparking (on the food itself) when being cooked in the microwave. This is not a problem with the unit. To eliminate the arcing, simply cover the food and/or add a small amount of water to the dish.
