Top Load Washer - Tub Movement / Auto Balance System

Top Load washers feature an automatic balance suspension system. This is a part of our Top Load washer design to help correct out of balance situations that sometimes occur when using your washer.

Understanding the Auto Balance System on a Top Load Washer

All of our washer tubs move freely within our auto balance suspension system. It is a rod and spring floating suspension designed to withstand extensive out of balance situations without the need for an "out of balance" switch.

During an out of balance load, the basket is allowed to "float" forward and backward, side to side, and up and down, yet it never touches the floor nor is it even connected to the floor. As a result, the clothes basket can move freely, and this is normal.

When you move the inner tub, you can hear a "sloshing" sound. This is the balance ring. For more information, see our Top Load Washer - Balance Ring article.
