Observing the Proper Gas Pressure When Installing a Gas Range or Cooktop

Gas Pressure Regulator

You must use the gas pressure regulator supplied with the gas range or cooktop. For proper operation, the inlet pressure to the regulator should be as follows:

Natural Gas

• Minimum Pressure - 6" of Water Column
• Maximum Pressure - 13" of Water Column

Propane Gas

• Minimum Pressure - 11" of Water Column
• Maximum Pressure - 13" of Water Column

Gas Pressure FAQs

Gas pressure is measured in Water Column pressure. Most gas cooking appliances operate on 4" to 5" WCP (WCP = water column pressure).

• Most homes and businesses have 6" to 7" water column pressure furnished to the natural gas meter.
• On LP gas, the WCP may rise to 11".
• 1" of water column pressure is equal to .03609 PSI (pounds per square inch).
