Washers Using Tints and Dyes
Using tints and dyes in your GE washer: Follow the package directions.
Note: Tinted garments may not be colorfast. Be sure to wash separately
Special Instructions:
- Clean the washer to avoid discoloration of the next load.
- Run through one cycle with 1/2 cup detergent and 1 cup bleach in hot water.
- While the plastic in the washer may discolor with tinting or dyes from clothing, staining is not an issue if recommended water temperatures are followed during the procedure (warm, 140 degrees Fahrenheit maximum).
- Subsequent washings will reduce discoloration, but may not eliminate it.
GE does not recommend using fabric dyes in the Front Load washer models. These machines use minimal amounts of water in order to meet specific energy guidelines. As a result, the garments are not completely immersed during the soak and wash sequences of the cycle that would allow for even coverage of the garments. Furthermore, the dye products may not dilute properly. We recommend contacting the dye manufacturers to see if they recommend using their dye products in the newer more energy efficient Front Load washers.
