Washers Operating Cost
The cost of operating your washer (not counting the cost of heating the water) is remarkably little. Assuming you do about 416 loads a year (8 loads a week), your washer consumes 90 kilowatt hours of electricity exclusive of the electricity or other energy source needed to heat water. Use a median rate of 8.6 cents/kwh to determine the cost of operating your washer and the result is only $7.74/year.
Note: These figures cover only the operating cost of the washer and comply with the Department of Energy test standards. If you have questions regarding the cost of operating a washer including the cost of heating the water please refer to the energy label guide on your washer. Washer energy label figures include the price of heating the water with electricity and with gas. This is probably 80% or more of the energy cost.
