Dryers Minimize the Fire Hazard
To minimize issues with the dryer, especially those that can be a fire hazard:
- Do not wash or dry articles that have been previously cleaned in, washed in, soaked in, or spotted with combustible or explosive substances such as gasoline, degreasers, dry-cleaning solvents, etc. These substances may give off vapors that could ignite or explode.
- Do not use combustible or explosive substances around the washer and/or dryer during operation.
- Articles labeled "dry away from heat" must not be put into the dryer.
- Do not use heat to dry articles containing rubber, plastic, or similar materials (such as padded bras, rubber-coated tennis shoes, rubber or plastic baby pants, galoshes, etc.) These materials may melt or burn.
- Fabrics impregnated with flammable chemicals, such as cleaning cloths and mops saturated with wax, must not be dried in the dryer. In addition, garments which have been cleaned with flammable fluids must be thoroughly cleaned and all traces of flammable fluids removed before being placed in a dryer.
- Clean the lint filter each time the dryer is used to prevent lint accumulation inside the dryer or in the room. Do not operate the dryer without the lint filter in place.
- Keep the area around and underneath the dryer free from the accumulation of combustible materials. For example: lint, paper, rags, and chemicals.
