Washer - Pet Hair Left in the Washer
Why does pet hair remain in the tub after a complete wash cycle?
If you launder garments that have pet hair on them, you may find that the pet hairs remain in the tub and on the clothes. This is due to a static cling effect or an electrical attraction between the plastic tub and clothes, especially synthetic fibers and/or napped or brushed fabrics. To eliminate or lessen this problem, try using fabric softener.
Will flushing pet hairs down the drain cause any problems for septic systems?
Pet hairs are biodegradable and will degrade or break down in a septic system. Therefore, they do not pose a problem. However, a problem could occur if an excessive amount of hair enters a drain system that is already clogged with other matter. The hair could attach itself to the clogged drain residue.
Laundry Tip for Pet Hair Removal
One tip to help with overall pet hair removal is to place items covered with pet hair in the dryer first for a 10-minute no-heat Air Fluff cycle, then wash them in the washer and dry them in the dryer as usual. The Air Fluff cycle will remove a lot of the hair, and it will loosen up the remaining for better removal in the washer. You may want to clean the interior drum afterwards, following the cleaning instructions found in your
Owner's Manual.
