Venting Systems Range Hood Damper
A range hood damper (draft regulator) prevents back drafts of air from entering the kitchen through the ductwork. The item number is JXDA22 and is available from retail appliance dealers. Find a local GE dealer.
All 1992 and older vented hoods came with a damper installed.
Beginning with the 1993 line, three models with a 7" round duct (JV322S, JV324S and JV624S) did not come with a damper. The damper is available as an accessory for these models. All other 1993 vented range hoods included a damper as part of the hood.
Note: The JXDA22 fits on top of the hood and is made for 7" round duct models only.
There are some instances where there is no need for a damper:
- The wall or roof cap already includes a damper.
- If the appliance is in a warmer climate where there is no drawing of colder air.
The damper kit may be used instead of the dampered wall or roof cap if the equivalent length of ductwork, as calculated for the application, is close to the specified limit and does not add any more than 6" to the pipe. Note: Downdraft models require an outside damper.
If the wall or roof cap does not have a damper, GE recommends the use of a range hood with a damper (or a model with optional damper capability) in areas of cooler/colder climates (to prevent back drafts) and in warm climates (to prevent insects from passing down through the venting system).
