Understanding a Noisy Water Valve on a Refrigerator

A rattle or vibration noise will be heard if the icemaker in the refrigerator is on but water is not supplied to it. The mechanism inside of the valve rattles against the walls when there is no back pressure from the water. This is normal when no water is supplied to the valve. It is recommended that when the appliance is not hooked up to water that the icemaker is turned off.
