Dishwasher - End of Cycle Light Not Working

Dishwashers typically have an end of cycle light that lets you know the dishes are done. If the amber (orange) light does not change to green or the Clean light does not come on, the Dishwasher most likely has not completed its cycle.

Understanding Why the End of Cycle Indicator Is Not Lighting Up

One reason the indicator light may not be working is because the wash cycle was interrupted. This is usually caused by opening the door too soon and then not re-latching it. If the door is unlatched mid cycle, there should be a beeping sound once every minute to remind the user to re-latch the door. Water remaining in the Dishwasher is another indicator that the cycle is not complete for some reason.

Choosing the Heated Dry or Added Heat options will add time to the overall wash cycle. This means it will take much longer for the end of cycle light to illuminate.

  • There are drying options such as Heated Dry, Dry Boost or Power Dry on many Dishwashers. These options typically add anywhere from 40 to 65 minutes onto a wash cycle.
  • Some models offer an Added Heat option for the wash cycle which adds approximately 15 minutes to the wash cycle.
