Dishwasher - SmartDispense™ Issue: Poor Wash, Detergent not Dispensing or Dispenser Clogged

Some GE Appliances Dishwashers have a SmartDispense™ feature for dispensing the detergent. Changing the detergent used in the SmartDispense™ detergent dispenser can be problematic if switching to a detergent with a different type of detergent formula.

An unfortunate side effect of the formula change is that there are different types of detergents (chlorine based or enzyme based). Mixing the two, even in very small concentrations, causes a gelatinous material to form in the dispenser. The SmartDispense™ pump is not able to pump the gelatinous mixture. Service will be required to correct this problem.

Preventing a Clogged SmartDispense™ Dispenser Tank

There are preventative steps to completely clean out the SmartDispense™ tank before switching brands to avoid clogging the dispenser. Please review the article below that matches the design of your Dishwasher.
