Electric Range & Cooktop - Improving Cooking Performance on Radiant Surface Burners

Most Electric Ranges and Cooktops made today feature a smooth, ceramic glass cooking surface. The heating elements for the burners are radiant elements beneath the cooking surface rather than electric coils on top of the cooking surface.

Improving the Cooking Performance of Radiant Burners

The following tips will help to get the best performance from radiant burners.

  • Use flat bottom pans for the best cooking results.
  • Stainless steel or aluminum pans are recommended for optimal performance.
  • A pan should not extend more than 1 inch beyond the burner ring.
  • If you are using a 6/9 or 6/9/12 inch surface burner, on models so equipped, be sure you have set the burner control or knob to the proper setting to match the size of the pan.
Note: Smooth glass cooktops may take slightly longer to boil water than traditional coil (Calrod) cooktops.
