Range & Wall Oven - Clicking and Other Noises

When using your range or wall oven, there are sounds that may occur with use. Clicking, humming, popping or fan sounds are all normal sounds you may hear.

Listed below are some common sounds associated with cooking products:

  • It is normal to hear the temperature control click on and off during baking, broiling and self-cleaning cycles. Your range or wall oven has been designed to maintain a tighter control over the oven temperature. You may hear the heating elements in a newer oven click on and off much more frequently than in older ovens. This achieves better results during baking, broiling and self-clean cycles.

  • It is also normal when using the top burners to hear them cycle on and off or even hum slightly.

  • The sound of a fan running during baking, broiling or self-cleaning is normal. Older model ranges automatically activate a fan during self-cleaning and newer built-in products with electronic controls have a cooling fan that will come on when the area around the clock or controls gets too warm. Many newer ranges will automatically activate a blower during baking and deactivate it after baking is complete and the oven has cooled.

    • There are many wall ovens in which the oven fan runs during all cooking functions, even during a time bake or delay start setup before the oven actually turns on. This is normal.

  • Cracking and popping sounds caused by the heating and cooling of metal during the cooking or cleaning functions are considered normal. It is simply the expansion and contraction of the metal.
