Wine Chiller - Sides of Outer Case Hot to the Touch
You may notice that the sides of the outer case are hot to the touch on a wine chiller. This is normal.
Understanding Why the Sides of the Outer Case Are Hot to the Touch on a Wine Chiller
The condenser is wrapped around and up against the inside of the case. The outside surface that you can see and feel is actually acting as the condenser to remove heat from the inside. If the compressor is not running, the sides may feel cool at times and this can be confusing.
If the wine chiller is enclosed by cabinets, the heat will not be able to escape and this will affect cooling performance. It cannot be built-in (enclosed on top, sides, back). Required clearances for the wine chiller are 1.5" on both sides and 2" on the top and back.
- Note: There are some wine chiller or wine cooler models that are specifically designed to be built-in. These models do not require the air clearance around the case.
