Wine Chiller - Frost, Ice Build-Up, Water Running Down the Inside Back Wall

It is normal to see frost, ice build-up and water on the back wall of a wine chiller.

Understanding Frost, Ice Build-Up, and Water Running Down the Inside Back Wall of a Wine Chiller

Wine chiller models are cycle defrost models. When the wine chiller is cooling, frost will collect on the back liner (this is the evaporator). During off cycles, this frost will melt and the water will drain down the back wall into a drain trough then into the drain pan. The drain pan is located behind the appliance above the compressor. Heat from the compressor will evaporate the drain water.

  • In high heat and humidity conditions or due to frequent door openings, the amount of frost or ice may accumulate. As soon as normal usage returns, this frost/ice will automatically defrost.

Note: Excessive icing may result if the door is left open, which may occur as a result of a bottle blocking the door, also known as door bounce.

Note: Frost may occur on a wine bottle if it is touching the back wall. Wine bottles should not be touching the back wall.
