Upright & Chest Freezer - Benefit of Wrap Around Condenser and Evaporator
Wrap around condenser: Used to get rid of the heat out of the freezer. For both chest and upright freezers, the tubing for the condenser runs just inside the outside wall of the freezer. It is sandwiched between the inner and outer wall.
-
On chest freezers, it wraps around the back, sides and front of the unit.
-
On upright freezers, it wraps around the back, sides and top of the unit.
Wrap around evaporator (also called an internal evaporator): Used to cool the unit.
-
On chest freezers, the wrap around evaporator is attached inside the walls of the unit much like that of the wrap around condenser.
-
On manual defrost upright freezers, the shelves are the evaporator and the coils of the evaporator are wrapped back and forth to form the shelf on which you place the food.
-
On frost free upright freezers, the evaporator is located in an area on the lower bottom of the unit and protrudes into the unit slightly at the back. Units with baskets usually have shorter depth baskets to account for this evaporator space being taken up.
