Hot/Cold Water Dispenser - Temperature
For a period of time, GE Appliances offered free-standing water dispensers. Some models offered hot and cold water from the dispenser. The following troubleshooting information is for the Hot/Cold water dispenser.
Diagnosing Temperature Issues With a Hot/Cold Water Dispenser
The Owner's Manual is always a good source for troubleshooting water temperature issues.
- Make sure the dispenser is not unplugged.
- Check to see if the house fuse is blown or the circuit breaker has tripped. This can happen if too many appliances are installed on the same circuit. Try unplugging a couple of devices on the same circuit.
- If you recently used a large amount of hot or cold water, give the dispenser at least 30 minutes to cool or heat the new water in the tank.
- The temperature limiter may have tripped. Set the hot and cold power switches located on the back of the dispenser on some models to the O (off) position. Wait five minutes and then set the switches to the I (on) position. Wait 30 minutes for the water to cool down or heat up.
- Potential issues causing a warm chiller temperature:
- A poor or damaged seal on the door/gasket.
- Frequent openings of the door. The compressor will not run excessively which could cause freezing of the cold water tank.
- Loss of refrigerant. The evaporator runs to the cold tank first, so it is feasible that the cold water is cool and the chiller could be warm.
Note: We no longer have hot/cold water dispensers, and have not for many years.
